Mill Valley House 1
This rustic 4500 sf, single-level home was built in the early 1900s in what is now downtown Mill Valley. Fulcrum designed a foundation where only log sleepers existed – with 6x6 redwood posts set directly into the earth – which included a tieback wall where the house approaches the edge of a slope, and protection for the roots of existing plants. There was significant need for reframing of rot-damaged, non-code compliant construction and for seismic upgrade. For a new rooftop observatory, Fulcrum developed an isolation support to minimize vibration and a rolling retracting roof. We raised the wood posts of the poolhouse off the earth and onto Japanesque stone footings in keeping with the Asian feel of the house and garden.
