The largest urban shopping center west of the Mississippi, this historic retrofit project required the existing 4’-12’ thick sandstone and brick façade be preserved while constructing the new building behind it. After modeling and analyzing the historic portion of this eight-story structure with RAM and SAP, we analyzed, designed and detailed special concrete moment frames and shear walls, new steel framing, retrofit and preservation of historic “hanging buttress” stairs. We designed new foundations and retrofit of the old. The existing 100’ diameter dome was retrofitted to meet current codes.
